In our lab testing, the iPad Air 2022's display covered a very good 111.8% of the sRGB color gamut and 79.2% of the DCI-P3 color space. However, the new iPad Air is brighter than its last-gen counterpart which topped out at 440 nits of brightness.ĭisney's "Encanto" looks brilliant on the iPad Air 5. This matches the normal iPad (484) but is less than the iPad Pro (571 nits). Per our brightness test that involves using a light gun, the iPad Air 5 tops out at 484 nits with adaptive brightness off. Considering these factors, I was very interested to see how the current iPad Air’s display compared to the older model. Our only minor critique was that the screen could have been a tad brighter. We were impressed with the old model's display since it delivered sharp picture quality on a relatively small screen. The iPad Air 5 has a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2360 x 1640 pixels – which is identical to the iPad Air 4. One thing that's worth noting is some users are complaining about iPad Air 5 build quality. It’s not meant to be connected to a bunch of external devices, though you could always use a dongle. I also can’t quibble about this tablet only having a single USB-C port. I could complain about the lack of a headphone jack, but since most devices are ditching the port in favor of wireless solutions, it’s not a big deal. The Magic Keyboard weighs a little over a pound, but it’s not enough to make a significant difference for most. The tablet is true to its “Air” moniker by being super light, not to mention extremely portable. I loved the iPad Air 4’s design so I’m glad Apple didn’t change it for the latest model. Storage options are the same too, with both the iPad (10th generation) and the iPad Air offered in 64GB and 256GB options so there really is very little difference between these two devices in terms of the core specifications.Įlsewhere, the iPad Air is compatible with the 2nd generation Apple Pencil, while the iPad (10th generation) is only compatible with the first generation Apple Pencil and you'll also need an adapter to charge it as the Apple Pencil (1st generation) is charged via Lightning. The iPad Air 5 is a sleek and elegant tablet. These two tablets also both have the same battery promise though, with up to 10 hours of watching video or up to 9 hours surfing the web and both have USB-C for charging. The iPad (10th generation) has its front camera presented in a landscape orientation as we mentioned though and this is more useful when it comes to video calling. On the front, both tablets have a 12-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture, a Retina Flash and features like Centre Stage. They also both offer up to 4K video recording up to 60fps. In terms of other specifications, both the iPad (10th generation) and the iPad Air have a 12-megapixel rear camera on board, with an f/1.8 aperture, 5x digital zoom and Smart HDR 3 for photos. It comes in five options including Purple, Pink, Blue, Space Grey and Starlight. The iPad Air meanwhile, also comes in a number of colour options but they are more pastel colours and therefore more muted than the iPad, making for a slightly more serious and professional look. The colours are lovely and bold so make for a striking tablet. The iPad (10th generation) comes in four colour options of Blue, Pink, Yellow and Silver. Both the iPad (10th gen) and the iPad Air come in Wi-Fi and Cellular models too though. The iPad Air (2022) meanwhile, starts at £669 in the UK and $599 in the US. It starts at $449 in the US and £499 in the UK for the Wi-Fi only model and it is available globally. The iPad (10th generation) hit shelves on 26 October 2022.
